Volunteer
Volunteers make this event happen, and are greatly appreciated. You get to have fun while helping this annual non-profit event be a success. In most cases, we are looking for volunteers to sign up for 4-hour shifts.
In exchange for volunteering, you will get in for free. We will feed you (sandwich, drink, chips, and the like). Some clubs and non-profits who are exhibiting are required to provide volunteers in exchange for their booth space – so your volunteering may also be helping your favorite club/non-profit.
Here are some of the areas we need volunteers:
- Event set up – Friday afternoon (1pm to 5pm) and early Saturday morning (7am to 10am); basically, helping the vendors move boats and gear to the beach. Could use more for Friday (for those who have the day off or can sneak out of work), but are probably Ok for Saturday morning.
- Event take down – Sunday evening (after event closes – from 3 until 7); helping vendors move those same boats and gear from beach to their trailers. Still need lots of volunteers for this!
- registration – both days; helping register people as they come in and also providing guidance to those with any questions. Shifts would be 8:30 to 12, and 12 to 4). Some need, but not urgent.
- safety boaters – both days; keeping an eye on people testing boats/boards and helping fish any unintentional swimmers out of the water. Also rounding up anyone that tries to paddle out of bounds. You should be comfortable on the water and practiced in rescuing other people. If you bring your own boat, the event will cover the launch fee and boat inspection fee. Preferred shifts would be 9 to 12:30 and 12:30 to 4). We still need more safety boaters for Sunday!
- clinic instructor – both days; we have 1-2 hour clinics in a variety of subjects which we need instructors for. If you bring your own boat, the event will cover the launch fee and boat inspection fee. Have most of these slots filled already.
If you have a preference, let us know. Or if you are open to doing whatever is needed (letting us fill you in which what is needed most, out of the activities you are willing to do), even better.
