Where is the Bay Area Paddlefest?

What is there to do at the Bay Area Paddlefest?

Is there parking at Quarry Lakes?

  • Yes.  Parking costs $5 and is paid directly to Quarry Lakes upon entrance.  Quarry Lakes accepts cash and visa/mastercard.

Do I have to bring my own canoe/kayak?

  • No.  You do not need to bring equipment.  Canoes, kayaks & paddleboards are provided.  We provide paddles and PFDs, though you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.  You should dress appropriately for the weather and if you get wet.
  • If you do bring your own canoe, kayak or paddleboard you will have to pay a launch fee and watercraft invasive species inspection fee directly to Quarry Lakes upon entrance.
  • If you are taking the Helen Wilson roll class (which is a separate charge from our standard entry, and would be reserved in advance at http://www.calkayak.com/class_sea.cfm#9744), you will either need to bring our own boat or rent one (for $25) for the class.

Can I take BART?

  • Yes.  It is a little over a mile from the Union City BART station. Directions can be found here.

Can I bring my dog?

  • Yes and No.  Dogs are allowed on a leash at Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area, but they are not allowed in the swim area, where the event is taking place.

Is there food available?

  • Not really.  There are vending machines with fatty snacks and sugary drinks on site.  Strongly recommend you bring a lunch with you.

Do I have to prepay or pre-sign up for clinics?

  • Except for the Helen Wilson rolling class, none of the other clinics have pre-sign ups. You would sign up on the day of the event at the site (or in many cases, just show up at the right place and time). And you can buy the Class + Demo day Pass on site.
